The Director General of health services is responsible for the procurement and distribution of all medical supplies to the government hospitals in Sri Lanka. The annual requirements are purchased through the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC), which is the buying arm of the government.
The average Pharmaceuticals import of the DHS is approximately 50% and the balance 50% is that of private importer's. These figures exclude all surgical, medical dispossables, medical equipment, etc. The approximate pharmaceutical growth is between 10% to 15% per annum. |
